“Neither is there figurative and non-figurative art. All things appear to us in the shape of forms. Even in metaphysics ideas are expressed by forms. Well then, think how absurd it would be to think of painting without the imagery of forms. A figure, an object, a circle, are forms; they affect us more or less intensely.”
-Pablo Picasso
I am so incredibly happy to have had the chance to see the exhibit, “Like Life: Sculpture, Color and the Body.” The show was one of the best curated shows I have ever seen! When you take such an in depth amount of knowledge and then incorporate a wide breadth of of talented artists, the show could have been overwhelming- it was not! It was breath taking, smartly arranged and a peaceful experience. I was aware that Janine Antoni’s work would be in the show and was patiently awaiting it’s presence. I turned the corner to see: Kiki Smith’s Sculpture, in front of Janine Antoni’s Sculpture, in front of Louise Bourgeois sculpture! It could not have been more perfectly arranged, I nearly cried! I stayed for a long time in that room, even sat for a time by each of the sculptures. I already want to go back!
